Catholics Marrying in a Non-Catholic Church We continue our look at Catholics and marriage: Can a Catholic be married in a non-Catholic Church? A Catholic wishing to be married in a non-Catholic Church may contact the Catholic Church and go through the preparation and procedure necessary for the marriage to be valid. Can a Catholic who has married in another church without permission from the Catholic Church continue to receive the sacraments? The answer is “no”. Before a Catholic is able to return to the sacraments, some paperwork is done and a period of Marriage Preparation is completed. Following that the marriage is validated or blessed and the Catholic is then free to receive the sacraments. Next week: Catholics, Divorce and the RCIA.
